Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can I contact if I have additional questions?
You may contact our director or reach out to any of our officers with your questions. Visit the "People" page in our "About" Section to find a specific contact, or email chorale@nd.edu for general inquiries.
- Do I have to go on tour?
While it isn't required, we highly recommend that you go on tour each year. Tour is an opportunity to travel, meet others in the Notre Dame Community, and form lifelong memories with your fellow Choralians. If you anticipate any financial challenges which may impede your ability to participate, you can reach out to our director for assistance or visit the Office of Student Enrichment for funding opportunities.
- Can I earn credit for being in the Chorale?
Yes! Once you are in the Chorale, you can add MUS 10210 (CRN 10855) to your schedule for 1 elective credit hour.
- Can I be in the Chorale and another ensemble, such as the band or another choir?
Yes, many students in the Chorale can successfully participate in the band, Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra, or another choir! However, permission from both choir directors is required to hold joint membership. You may contact our director for more information if you are interested in joining multiple music ensembles.
- When and where is rehearsal?
We normally rehearse every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30-8:15 in Michuda Rehearsal Hall, at O'Neill Hall of Music. Once you are in the Chorale, our officers can help you locate our rehearsal hall.
- What do I need to do in my audition?
During your audition, you will be asked to sing a basic hymn, check your voice range, and do some sight reading. We welcome singers of all experience levels, and you do not need to prepare any music ahead of time. Our officers are happy to offer insight if you have any more questions!
- Can I join if I've never sung in a choir before?
We welcome students of any experience level to audition for the Chorale. As long as you have some basic sight-reading abilities, you should be ready for your audition. Even if you do not know your voice part, our directors can help with the rest! Additionally, if you have experience in a liturgical choir but not in a concert choir, the Chorale may still be an excellent fit for you! Many of our members had no experience singing in a concert choir before they joined the Chorale.
- Can I join the Chorale if I am from Saint Mary's College/Holy Cross College, or if I am a graduate student?
Yes! We accept undergraduates from Saint Mary's and Holy Cross, as well as students from graduate programs at Notre Dame. Many of our members and officers are proud to call Saint Mary's, Holy Cross, or the Notre Dame graduate programs their own!
